Fitting Rider to Seat and Pedals for a recumbent

Greetings,
I am looking for whatever "standard rules" there might be regarding seat back angle, seat base angle, distance to pedals, etc. for a recumbent bike. I have been riding a tandem with my daughter, and have recently been adding distance and more time on hills, and I am feeling it in my lower back. I suspect I may be too closed up, with limited seat travel on my current Sun EZ Tandem. I think that the Gulfstrem would afford more legroom, and I am looking forward to sometime when we will b… Continue

Len - Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately with my eyesight I cannot use the helmet mirrors very well (I need to be 20 feet away from something that standard vision can read at the distance of two football fields). However, a friend had some alu…

Dan, thanks. I had a look at it, it's one hell of a construction, isn't it? I've had a look at what's available here, which is pretty well standard world over, and if I fly QANTAS then I get a slightly better weight deal 23 kgs instead of the usua…

I'm working with Greg right now, while he builds our new Jetstream. I'm having it fitted with S&S couplings so that I can travel with the tandem. We discussed many options, and were kind of stuck on a good shipping container, but I finally came acro…

Dan, Reading your post I picked this out "The other item I am still wrestling with is how to get a really good mirror on this bike. That will be my next addition/project. Just putting mirrors on the support arms places the mirrors a bit too far bac…

1) What brought you to recumbents in the first place, I have always believed that comfort was the number one reason, but tell us more. I had ridden one many years ago while visting Boston Ma. and thought interesting but that was about it. Then 20yea…

Hugh, Thanks for the note. We're working on pictures for CGOAB. I have a 11-34 rear cluster and am thinking of putting a 12-36. My wife is not very athletic and we might need lower gears in the Rockies. Since we're taking 4 of the kids speed is not…

Danny Apologies, just sent you a note via CGOAB not realising that this was also you. I've fitted the 11-34 cog, which made life marginally easier on hills, but also altered the cranks so while my pedals are at north-south my stokers are east-west…

Ien, I don't know if it is too late, but could you add the pictures of the underseat rack? I have a Gulfstream that we're getting ready to do a Transam starting in 3 months. We used "Mark's Rack" on the front wheel and it worked great, although I di…

Len Hope you don't mind me posting your photos! All in the cause though. I'd noticed your 'bags' slung behind the stoker and wondered what you had done to get them there. Very ingenious of you. I wandered through the on-line pages of archives in…

Danny, The Mark's Rack from Raivendell works well and fits like it was made for the bike. You could also make and underseat rack if you wanted, thats what we did for our cross country trip in 2007 The Slipstream and Gulfstream are very close and th…
